Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 9, 2026
Permit Genie (“Permit Genie,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides an AI-powered permitting research and workflow platform at permitgenie.co (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here and in our Terms of Service.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide to us
- Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials. Sign-up and sign-in are handled by a third-party authentication provider on our behalf.
- Project information. Property addresses, parcel details, project descriptions, jurisdiction selections, and other details you enter about your real estate projects.
- Uploaded documents. Plans, forms, permits, reports, and other files you upload for document preparation and review.
- Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan or use pay-as-you-go billing, payments are processed by Stripe. Your full card details are sent directly to Stripe and never stored on our servers; we retain only billing metadata such as plan, status, and transaction references.
- Marketplace requests. If you use our professional marketplace to request bids or proposals, we collect the details of your request so we can share them with the professionals you choose to contact.
- Survey responses and communications. Feedback you submit through in-app surveys, chat messages you send to our Genie assistant, and any messages you send us directly.
Information collected automatically
- Product analytics. We use a third-party analytics service, hosted in the United States, to understand how the Service is used. It collects events such as page views, clicks, and feature usage, along with device and browser information, approximate location derived from your IP address, and error and crash reports.
- Site analytics and performance. We collect aggregated traffic and page performance metrics.
- Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies and browser storage for authentication sessions, analytics, and payment fraud prevention. Essential cookies are required for the Service to function; see “Your choices” below for how to limit analytics.
- Log data. Our servers record standard technical logs, such as IP address, request URLs, timestamps, and response status, for security and debugging.
2. How we use your information
- Provide, operate, and improve the Service;
- Generate permitting research, roadmaps, document checklists, application drafts, and document reviews for your projects;
- Authenticate you and secure your account;
- Process payments and manage subscriptions;
- Connect you with licensed professionals when you request it;
- Respond to support requests and communicate about the Service;
- Understand usage patterns, fix bugs, and develop new features;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
3. AI processing
Permit Genie is an AI-powered product. Project details you enter, questions you ask the Genie assistant, and documents you upload may be processed by large language models to generate research, answers, and document reviews. This processing is performed by established third-party AI providers under terms that govern their handling of your data. We do not use your project data or documents to train our own or third-party foundation models.
4. Third-party services we use
We share information with service providers only as needed to run the Service. Each provider processes data under its own privacy terms:
- Authentication providers — account creation, sign-in, and session management (name, email address, session data).
- Payment processors — we use Stripe for payment processing and billing (payment details, billing metadata).
- Analytics and error-tracking providers — product analytics, error tracking, and in-app surveys (usage events, device information, survey responses).
- Hosting and infrastructure providers — website hosting, databases, and storage of uploaded documents.
- AI model providers — processing of project data and documents to generate the AI-powered outputs described above.
Marketplace search results include ratings and business details from Google Maps; Google’s privacy policy applies to that content. Our marketplace also draws on public records, such as state contractor license board registries, to verify professional licenses. If you send a bid request to a professional through the marketplace, the project details you include are shared with that professional.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising purposes.
5. Data retention
We keep your account and project data for as long as your account is active. You can delete projects and uploaded documents at any time from within the Service, or ask us to delete your account entirely, after which we will delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain records for legal, tax, or security purposes. Analytics data is retained under our analytics providers’ standard retention schedules.
6. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and isolated storage for uploaded documents. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access, correction, deletion. You can view and update your account information in the app, and you may request a copy or deletion of your personal information by contacting us.
- Analytics. Because analytics requests are routed through our domain, generic ad-blockers may not block them; contact us if you would like your analytics data deleted.
- Marketing. We do not currently send marketing email. If we do in the future, every message will include an unsubscribe link.
California residents. The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion or correction, and to opt out of “sale” or “sharing.” We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we do not use sensitive personal information for purposes requiring a right to limit. To exercise your rights, contact us using the details below; we will not discriminate against you for doing so.
Other jurisdictions. If you are located in a region with its own data protection law (such as the EU/UK GDPR), you may have similar rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability, and objection. Contact us to exercise them.
8. Children
The Service is a business tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
